MBI was founded on the principles of scientific rigor, ethical sourcing, and a commitment to supporting high-impact genetic research. Our development of SuperBLOK™ DNA began in direct response to the needs of researchers seeking a high-quality yet cost-effective DNA product for use in hybridization-based assays.
To meet this need, we focused on securing an ethically sourced supply of human placental tissue for our product, ensuring the safety, traceability, and compliance of the source material. Our placentas are consensually donated to research, where otherwise the placentas would have been incinerated or discarded. MBI maintains strict compliance with HIPAA regulations, and we established an exclusive partnership with a US-based, ISO-certified tissue provider.
Two decades later, today MBI is a primary manufacturer of human tissue-derived DNA. SuperBLOK™ DNA reflects our dedication to delivering consistent reproducible results, while upholding the highest standards of safety, documentation, and ethical responsibility. MBI serves as the bridge between donor and researcher, ensuring that a single, meaningful contribution can ripple outward to fuel discovery and ultimately help others.
Manufacturing & Quality Assurance
SuperBLOK™ DNA is produced from highly purified, high molecular weight genomic DNA, which is processed under controlled conditions to enrich for repetitive DNA sequences. Through fragmentation, thermal denaturation, and reannealing, we isolate DNA fragments optimized for hybridization-based applications. The final product contains DNA fragments ranging from 50 to 350 base pairs in size.
We maintain batch consistency by retaining secured lots, minimizing variability between productions. Each batch is accompanied by a certificate of analysis, confirming DNA purity, size distribution (verified by agarose gel electrophoresis), and shelf-life stability. Packaging is performed using inert, sterile, certified nuclease-free vials from TriForest Labs to maintain product stability and prevent contamination.
Source, Screening, Compliance & Safety
SuperBLOK™ DNA is derived from flash-frozen human placental tissue obtained exclusively from a US-based, ISO-certified provider and is fully compliant with HIPAA and other applicable regulations. Each sample is:
- Flash-frozen immediately post-delivery to preserve DNA integrity
- Pathogen-free and tested serologically for HIV 1/2, HCV, HBV, and other infectious diseases
- Randomly karyotyped to confirm male genotype
- Fully traceable with unique lot numbers tied to each tissue source
MBI’s manufacturing facility is dedicated solely to human DNA production and operates under strict GMP-compliant guidelines. Mouse Cot DNA is manufactured separately in an independent remote facility and shipped from a different location to ensure complete segregation of processes.
Usage Recommendation
SuperBLOK™ DNA has been optimized for a size range of 50 to 350 base pairs. Amount of DNA for effective suppression of cross-hybridization depends on the type and amount of probe DNA. We recommend to start with a 50-100 fold excess of SuperBLOK™ DNA compared to probe DNA. For microarray and CGH applications, extending hybridization times (16–72 hours) may further enhance results.
0.5mg is ample for up to 10 Southern blot assays, or over 500 in-situ hybridization.
